Now that you’ve decided you want to build your own greenhouse, you’re probably a little nervous. Maybe a little nervous about the “construction” part, after all, the operative word in greenhouse is “house”. It can be quite the economical scare tactic if you’re not sure how to approach it. Luckily, greenhouse construction can be an easy and straight-forward project with a good set of plans, and usually is as friendly on your wallet as it is the environment.
With so many greenhouse models on the market, you can be sure that there are a plethora of cheap greenhouses out there for your consideration. When considering all of your costs, you need to factor in the type of material with which you’ll be erecting your frame. Wood is easily attained, inexpensive, and structurally versatile. However, the strongest framework material is aluminum, though, because of its durability and its makeup, the cost is driven up.
If you’re going for both utility and cost-effectiveness, PVC or polyethylene is usually a great choice . PVC pipes are lightweight, cheap, and easily attained from any hardware store. You may be tempted to ask if building a greenhouse can be cost-effective with the amount of materials that you need to purchase. The answer is yes. All you have to keep in mind are the type of materials you’re going for. You don’t always have to go for the most expensive to be the most effective: you should consider PVC, common wood frames, and a greenhouse design that are easy to work with and not over complicated..because it doesn’t need to be!
Of course if you can’t spare a weekend to build your own greenhouse, buying a kit or a prefabricated one is your next option. Keep in mind however, that depending on your horticultural ambitions, these types of greenhouses could end up costing you a pretty penny. If you’re willing to spend some time snooping around, you may get the bargain you’re looking for. Consider for example, looking for a used greenhouse. Though anything used has the potential to be a disaster from the get-go, if you use some common sense you might be able to find a greenhouse that’s not only proven sound and effective, but a greenhouse that costs a fraction of a newly modeled or self-constructed house.
Because the greenhouse market is vast and there are so many outlets wanting your business, there’s no doubt that there are plenty of discount greenhouses out there just waiting to be purchased. Doing a little homework and finding out where you can purchase greenhouses in your town or on the net will probably uncover some great deals. At the end of the day though, the cheapest way to own a quality hobby greenhouse is to make one yourself.
Low cost greenhouses are not hard to come by. Just be aware that whatever materials you buy or whatever house you consider, don’t be fooled by flash. Sure you may have to put in a bit more work, but you’re house will be usable and inexpensive. As long as you’re willing to put in the effort, you’ll have the greenhouse you’ve always desired.
